A Life in Color
Over her long and distinguished career, Jennifer Davenport withheld certain favorite paintings in a private studio collection for her personal enjoyment. After fighting a serious illness for the past 18 months, Jennifer has released her collection to Ventana. Although unable to attend the festival her work will be featured in the gallery.
What makes an abstract artist great? Jennifer Davenport has found and applied the answers over three successful decades as a professional painter. Her work has evolved from monotypes which grace countless corporate and individual collections to paintings on canvas, and through several stylistic periods to her current phase, which is characterized by utter mastery of design and a virtuosic arsenal of technical skills. Davenport applies a formidable range of painterly powers to her naturally inventive genius for color, composition, and form. With her innate and highly refined ability to bring the full scope of the acrylic medium’s potential to its highest and best use, namely paintings that engage the eye, the intellect, and the emotions, Davenport paintings connect effortlessly with every viewer who sees her work, from the novice to the most discerning connoisseur of fine art.
One of many outstanding aspects of her current body of work is an entrancing fusion of strength and softness. Davenport understands principles like dominance and subordination in color design, harmonious shape-building, textural interest, opacity, translucency, rhythm, and exquisite balance. That deep grasp makes her paintings treasures of visual information, with every element relating essentially to every other in seamless coherence. Davenport offers the spectator infinite points of embarkation for the imagination and the soul. Exciting, soothing, fascinating in close-up and at distance, Jennifer Davenport’s paintings invite and stand up to repeated viewings, always yielding something fresh and heretofore undiscovered.
