It has been a great privilege to be an artist for over 4 decades. Only at this time in my career am I able to paint most of the things I had dreamed about for many years. While I am capable of painting rapidly, I now prefer to paint slowly, carefully rendering soft line and value transitions. I will probably always be a colorist, using 13 colors on my palette. I choose rarely to use black paint, as it is so dark and heavy, preferring luminous colorful shadows using purples and blues, or mixing a black color if it is essential.
Teaching painting and drawing has been an integral part of my life, and I am blessed with talented and dedicated students. I teach at San Juan College, in Farmington, New Mexico, as an Adjunct Instructor. In summers I teach a select group of painters outdoors - Plein Air Painting. Teaching may become less, as I want now to focus entirely on painting the best things of which I'm capable.
